Port Kavkaz’s Throughput Down 9.6% in Jan-Sep 07
OREANDA-NEWS. October 5, 2007. In January-September 2007, throughput of port Kavkaz fell by 9.59%, year-on-year, to 4.792.14 million tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Transshipment of export cargo totaled 3.047.18 million tonnes (2.4 times more as compared with January-September 2006). Import grew by 19.89% to 741,670 tonnes. In the 9-month period the port handled 80,950 tonnes of fertilizers and 857,000 tonnes of general cargo. Transshipment of oil products amounted to 2.850.9 million tonnes. Off-harbor transshipment decreased 3.4 times to 1.003.29 million tonnes. In the reported period the port handled 1,729 vessels against 1,758 vessels in 2006.
Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2,600-meter long railway line. The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
