Throughput of the Leningrad Region Ports up 19% in Jan-Aug 07
OREANDA-NEWS. October 2, 2007. In January-August 2007, throughput of the Leningrad region ports grew by 19%, year-on-year, to 64.6 million tonnes. The port of Primorsk accounts for the major part of the throughput. In January-August 2007, SMNP Primorsk LLC and Primorski Torgovy Port LLC exported 49.25 million tonnes of oil (+14.4%, year-on-year). In the reported period, the two ports handled 493 tankers (+14.9%).
In January-August 2007, the port of Vyborg handled 656,000 tonnes of cargo (-12.1%), 78,5% falls on export. The main part of cargo flow was formed by chemical cargo – 213,400 tonnes (+21.6%) and timber – 124,600 tonnes (-53%).
Cargo handling at the port of Ust-Luga grew 2.1-fold to 4.4031 million tonnes. The terminal of Rosterminalugol OJSC handled 3.9964 million tonnes of coal (2.1-fold growth year-on-year). Ust-Luga’s timber terminal Factor handled 306,300 tonnes of round timber (1.9-fold growth, year-on-year).
From the moment automobile-railway ferry complex Ust-Luga – Baltijsk – German ports started operation in the middle of July 2007, 5,500 tonnes of cargo was transported. Currently only automobile component operates making 1 run per week to Baltijsk. By the end of the year it is planned to transport some 20,000 tonnes of ro-ro cargo.
