OREANDA-NEWS. Russian telecommunications backbone operator - TransTelecom Company CJSC (TTC), announced its selection of Asia Netcom as its network service provider for Hong Kong to Tokyo connectivity. This announcement comes in the wake of TTC’s launch of its Beijing representative office, reported the press-centre of TransTelecom Company.

Under the terms of the contract, Asia Netcom will provide TTC with STM4 protected IPLC service from Hong Kong Mega to its Tokyo PoP (point-of-presence).that will be installed in the last decade of September, 2007. This initial contract sets forth a framework for further cooperation and facilitates the mutual support of customers across the infrastructure of the two operators.

As the first Russian telecommunication company to enter China, TTC is expanding its commercial and technical connections with major Chinese operators as well as working with regional carriers to expand its presence in key markets around Asia and beyond. The Tokyo-Hong Kong connectivity will support TTC’s ‘EurasiaHighway’ strategy for Asia-Pacific Region (APR). According to the strategy TTC provides APR operators with a terrestrial backbone route to Europe. The direct connectivity between TTC’s Tokyo and Hong Kong Points of Presence (PoP) is an essential part of a fully redundant TTC’s APR infrastructure.

The basis of the route is the worlds largest (28,000 km.) reserved terrestrial Infrastructure network, which spans the length of Russia. It is built around DWDM technology and has a capacity of 50 Gbps which is easily scalable to up to 400 Gbps. The implementation of TTC’s strategy in the APR will provide multinational companies and regional telecommunication operators with access to the shortest, seamless telecommunication route from the Asia to Europe as well as extra backup; essentially increased reliability of intercontinental data transfer.

December 2007 TTC also plans to complete its Sakhalin-Hokkaido Cable System (HSCS) a strategically important project, crucial for ‘EurasiaHighway’. The project is to directly interconnect Russian and Japanese networks. The contract was signed in February 2007 during the visit of the Prime-miister of Russian Federation to Japan. When completed the HSCS will allow TTC to offer a fully redundant terrestrial route to companies and telecommunication operators of Asia Pacific in need for a data transit between Europe and Asia.
