Russian and Korean Postal Employees Issued Joint Block of Stamps Flora
OREANDA-NEWS. October 1, 2007.The ceremonies of memorable cancelling of block of stamps "Flora" were held on 26th of September in Pyongyang and Moscow. The stamps are issued jointly by the Russian Federation and Korean People's Democratic Republic. Head of Administrative Office of Federal Communication Agency V. Shelikhov and Deputy Director of Korean Corporation Marka Chve Rim Sen, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the KPDR in the RF Kim Yen Chzhe, Director General of trade-publishing center Мarka А. Adibekhov, Deputy Director General of FSUE Russian Post I. Mandrikin and other officials in Moscow attended the ceremony held in the Center of International Post.
The first joint issue of stamp Fauna was implemented in 2005. Sable (Russian plot) and Ussuriisk tiger (Korean plot) are depicted on the stamps. Korean part was the initiatior of the second joint issue. They suggested to depict flowers on the stamps. In the selecting process Russian part suggested decorative, but wild flowers growing in the Far East in Russia: nut lotos and ensate lotos. The Korean colleagues suggested selection sorts – rose and cornflag.
The work on the issue lasted over one year. This issue would be impossible without close cooperation not only between postal administrations of both countries, but foreign political agencies, in particular the Embassy of the Korean People's Democratic Republic and the Embassy of the Russian Federation.
As to V. Shelikhov, the issue of the first block of stamps Fauna in 2005 was of high demand both among the postal customers and philatelists. He also hopes that the issue will have the same success as previous one. I. Mandrikin in his turn emphasized that the event would continue Russian-Korean relations in cultural sphere. The joint issue of stamps always reflects the art and culture of both countries.
Currently, the stamps Flora were put into circulation, so customers can buy them in post offices in Russia. The block circulation amounted 130 thousand items with each stamp’s price of 6 rubles.
