OREANDA-NEWS. The trade turnover between Belarus and Lithuania may total $1 billion in 2007, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky said when meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Belarus Edminas Bagdonas, reported the Official website www.government.by.

According to the Prime Minister, Belarus and Lithuania promote their relations on a yearly basis. It concerns both political and economic cooperation. “When I speak to my Lithuanian counterpart we always reach mutual understanding on the issues which are important for the two economies,” he said.

A $1-billion trade turnover will be a good result of the cooperation between the Belarusian and Lithuanian economic entities, the Belarusian PM noted. On the whole, there are 270 companies set up with the Lithuanian ownership in Belarus and 240 companies with the Belarusian capital in Lithuania.

According to the Prime Minister, the Klaipeda port significantly promotes the growth of the mutual trade. For the eight months of the current year five million tonnes of cargos were transshipped through the port. Belarus wants the share of its cargoes transported by the Lithuanian railways to Klaipeda to reach 20% and seeks a balanced price policy in this field, said Sergei Sidorsky.

In the near future Belarus intends to actively diversify its export supplies. Belarus and Lithuania have good cooperation prospects in this sphere, the Belarusian PM underlined.
