Viktor Zubkov Visits Elemash
OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2007. Zubkov was accompanied by the head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy Sergey Kiriyenko and the governor of Moscow region Boris Gromov.
Zubkov inspected the whole chain of nuclear fuel production - from powder of low-enriched uranium to fuel rods of different modifications - particularly, the uranium pellet casing, fuel element production and fuel rod assembly sections. He also visited the department producing fuel assemblies of European design for export to Western European nuclear power plants (the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, etc.).
“Before visiting the plant, I had read about its history and I know that it is 90 years old. I know that it was set up in 1917 as a weapon producer but after the WWII it was reorganized into nuclear fuel manufacturing company.”
“During the WWII the plant produced mine, bombs, rockets for Katyusha and Vanyusha artillery systems. As you may know, Katyushas helped us greatly to win the war.”
Zubkov asked the young workers if they were satisfied with the working conditions at the plant, how much money they got and if they liked their job. “Our average salary is 20,000 RUR and this is quite good,” one of them said.
