Rosatom Plans to Spend 130bln RUR to Solve Radiation Problems
OREANDA-NEWS. By 2015 Rosatom is planning to spend 130bln RUR to solve radiation problems that occurred in Russian regions so far due to the activities of the nuclear power industry, the advisor of the head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy Igor Konyshev said during a press-conference in Chelyabinsk on Tuesday.
Particularly, the money will be spent on the rehabilitation of the victims of radioactive contamination.
By 2010 Rosatom is planning to complete the recovery of the village of Muslumovo and Techa River, an area in Chelyabinsk region that suffered from an accident at Mayak PA in 1957. Simultaneously with the resettlement of Muslumovo, Rosatom is planning to re-cultivate the basin of Techa. By 2011 the Agency will allocate 9.5bln RUR for solving the problem of Mayak’s Techa reservoir cascade.
Mayak is one of the biggest radioactive materials treatment centers in Russia. It serves Kola, Novovoronezh and Beloyarsk NPPs and processes spent fuel from nuclear submarines.
An area of almost 20,000 sq km with a population of 270,000 people was contaminated as a result of the accident at Mayak PA.
