OREANDA-NEWS. OJSC Territorial Generating Company No 5 (TGC-5), OJSC Kirovenergo, and OJSC Kirovenergosbyt conducted a 1.5-hour excursion on board a steamboat on the Vyatka River for Kirov schoolchildren, dedicated to the 115th anniversary of electricity supply in the Vyatka land. The event titled Heading for the Future, Preserving History is timed to a landmark event that occurred in the town 115 years ago when the Filipp Bulychev steamer illuminated with electric lamps first travelled along the Vyatka River. That was how townspeople were introduced to electricity.

During the excursion on board the steamboat the schoolchildren who receive allowances from the Sodruzhestvo ("Commonwealth") charitable foundation were told about the history of the appearance of electricity in the town of Vyatka and about how the work of power enterprises supplying power to hundreds of businesses and institutions contributed to the growth and development of the regional centre and about power companies' present-day development strategy. Besides, there were theme competitions and quizzes organised for them. The kids say they received new useful information thanks to the excursion.

OJSC TGC-5 Director General Eduard Smelov noted, "It is important for us, as we are building today the groundwork for large-scale development of the power industry in the region, to carefully preserve the traditions of reliability, high responsibility and partiality for the cause which have been the main principle of the Vyatka power industry's operation for more than a century now. And I hope that children found this trip interesting and informative and that it helped them to learn more about their native town and the power industry as the basis for its life."
