OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2007. Power Machines, as a subcontractor for the consortium of the Mexican construction companies ICA and Peninsular, won in a tender held by the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission for the construction of the 750-MW La Yesca HPS.

The win in the tender was preceded by a serious competitive struggle with the groups Promotora del Desarrollo de Amйrica Latina and Impregilo–Techint– Prourbe Del Bajio–Proyecto La Yesca during 2006 and 2007.

The offer of the Power Machines and ICA/Peninsular group was recognized as the best in terms of technical characteristics and prices, while the packaged offer of Power Machines for the supply of production equipment for all power station facilities received the highest appraisals according to all criteria of the tender committee.

The total cost of the project is USD 768 million, and the share of Power Machines is about USD 200 million.
According to the project terms, the scope of work for Power Machines includes the supply of power equipment for two power units (two 375-MW hydro turbines and two hydro generators coming with excitation systems), auxiliary equipment (hydro-mechanical, electrical, including automatic control systems, and process systems for the HPS building), as well as an additional 3-MW hydro unit for the station’s common service.

The manufacture, supply and installation of the equipment will be done from 2008 to 2012. The power station construction project has stiff deadlines: the first power unit is to be put into operation on January 2, 2012, the second — on April 2, 2012, while the entire project is to be completed on July 1, 2012.

La Yesca HPS will become a part of the chain of power stations on the Rio Grande de Santiago at the border of the Halisco and Nayarit states. Power Machines also supplied equipment for the two stations of this chain that were built previously — 975-MW Aguamilpa HPS and 750-MW El Cajon HPS.
