Dmitry Donskoy Chapel Laid in Memory of Metallurgists
OREANDA-NEWS. IG Utro.ru - On the 15th of September a chapel of Dmitry Donskoy was laid on the territory of the Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant (part of the Group of companies “ESTAR”).
The procedure of laying was conducted according to all the Orthodox canons: after a service of prayers an encapsulated cross and a marble plaque were put in a special niche in the middle of the foundation of the eastern wall of the future chapel. The site of the future construction was sanctified by Iov, Metropolitan of Chelyabinsk and Zlatoust.
“Today a joyful event is taking place here, - said His Eminence, - we have gathered to lay the foundation stone, put the cross and pray for God’s help in constructing a chapel in this place in the honour of those who had worked at the plant and glorified the plant, the city and the country with their work, efforts and sufferings during the Great Patriotic War”.
During the war more than 1300 metallurgists of the ZMP went to fight. The plant was virtually the only producer of special steels which were needed for the production of components for the engines of tanks and planes. All in all the plant smelted 1,580,000 t of steel and produced 1,408,000 t of rolled products during the war.
“We commemorate those who had given their lives for the Motherland, - the managing director of the ZMP, Alexander Rybkin said, - and, as the chapel is built to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, we decided to dedicate it to the great Russian commander, Dmitry Doskoy”.
