OREANDA-NEWS. September 6, 2007. Zaporizhstal confidently follows the way of reequipment: at the Works new projects are brought on stream and those available are subject to reconstruction. Soon to their number No.5 blast furnace will also be added, heavy repairs of which is mapped out for the nearest months. To this effect the Works’ subdivisions carry out orders for major maintenance. Particular responsibility was placed on the foundry men who should supply work stocks for hundreds of necessary parts and assemblies.

‘Our specialists execute such orders exclusively for major repairs of blast furnaces that are performed once in 15 years at each at the average. In most cases these are the castings of the so-called piece production that require high qualification of job performers as well as a thorough study of all production processes,’- Oleg Sychev, foundry superintendent informed. Production output of the shop for similar repairs rises as a rule. For most products for No. 5 BF we have already advanced to the finishing line. In the foundry we produced over 60 t of steel castings and about 20 t of iron castings. These products have already been submitted for machining.

Preparation for BF heavy maintenance starts not less than 6 months in advance. Therefore the yield of castings and fabrication of various work-pieces strictly follows the schedule. Under such conditions the foundry men work for several months. If formerly in the shop 250 ingot mould were produced for technological requirements, this summer 300 pieces per month were made. This is achieved through mobilization of own potentialities as well by solution of a number of production and stuff issues.
