The Unnamed Air Vehicles Development Program to Be Implemented by MiG
OREANDA-NEWS. September 4, 2007. The unmanned air vehicle mock up, developed jointly by the specialists of RAC “MiG” and Klimov, was presented for the first time at Airshow MAKS-2007. The new unmanned air vehicle mock up is named “SKAT”.
At present the full-sized mock up of the unmanned air vehicle intended for refinement of the design solutions and also for evaluation and optimization of its characteristics has been built. The power plant of the new aircraft is been developed by the specialists of Klimov on the basis of the non-afterburning modification of RD-33 turbojet engine.
This engine, which thrust is about 5,000 kgf, enables UAV SKAT to gain the speed more than 800 km/h near ground and carry combat load up to 2 tons. The operating ceiling of SKAT is more than 12 thousand meters and the flight range is up to 4 thousand kilometers. The UAV will be provided with two air-to-surface missiles or anti-radar missiles. The UAV will be also capable to use two guided aerial bombs which calibers are 250 and 500 kg.
Klimov has many years’ experience in developing of power plants for the UAV. In the 70s Klimov’s design bureau developed TR3-117 engine for the power plant of Tu-143 “Race” reconnaissance aircraft and later its modification “Race-D” In 2006 Klimov and Radar-MMS (development of guidance system) signed memorandum of cooperation regarding development of the unmanned aerial vehicle.
