OREANDA-NEWS. On August 27, 2007 so as to ensure safety of the construction the general designer of unit 2 of Rostov NPP, Atomenergoprom (Nizhniy Novgorod), has decided to build cooling ponds outside the construction site, reported the press-centre of Volgodonsk NPP. 

A year ago, in Aug 2006, the contractor companies received permission for starting groundwork in front of the reserve boiler. 

31 vehicles of Energostroy OJSC and Kurskatomenergostory Ltd have been involved in the project. They have removed over 270,000 c m of earth so far.

Three contractor companies, Energostory, Promstroy and Gazmontazh, are working in the three basins of the cooling pond. They are reinforcing, cementing and sealing the basins, mounting pumps and laying pipelines. Despite hot weather and scorching sun, the workers are working hard so as to meet the deadline and to finish the ponds by Aug 2008. Experts from the Reactor Department of Volgodonsk NPP are constantly supervising their work. 

A group of concrete layers from Promstroy are now concreting and asphalting the bottom and walls of the basins. Their leader Vasily Shlyakhov says that his men are diligent and efficient. “They are an excellent team.”
