RUSAL Donates usd 1 mln to Support Employees in Jamaica
OREANDA-NEWS. August 27, 2007. UC RUSAL donates USD 1 mln to assist the employees of Alpart and Windalco alumina refineries as well as the surrounding community institutions which suffered damage from Hurricane Dean. The funds will be used to assist employees who suffered substantial damage to their homes due to the passage for Hurricane Dean as well as to help in the restoration of key community based facilities, reported the press-centre of RUSAL.
About Alpart
Alpart Alumina Refinery is situated on the island of Jamaica. The port, refinery and associated mine currently employs 1307 people. Production capacity at the refinery is 1,65 mln tonnes per year. The bauxite used for alumina production is extracted from the facility’s own bauxite mines.
About Windalco
West Indies Alumina Company (WINDALCO) is also situated on the island of Jamaica. The company comprises of a port, two alumina refineries (Ewarton Works and Kirkvine Works), bauxite mines and farms in Manchester and St. Ann. The production volume of the company is 1,25 mln tonnes of alumina annually. WINDALCO currently employs 1,318 people.
