OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2007. Smolensk NPP received the international quality management certificate ISO 9001:2000, reported the press-centre of Smolensk NPP.

SNPP is the first NPP of Rosenergoatom to have received such a certificate.

Smolensk started the project half a year ago. In Apt 2007 the quality management system was inspected. 

The inspectors found out that Smolensk NPP deserved ISO 9001:2000. The director general of Bureau Veritas Certification Rus CJSC Leonid Yaskin came to the plant to present the certificate. “This document certifies that you are an exclusive enterprise,” he said.

Over 1,000,000 organizations worldwide have ISO 9001:2000.

Yaskin commended Smolensk NPP for its quality management activities and expressed hope for further cooperation. At the next stage SNPP is planning to introduce a more widely integrated quality management system. Yaskin noted that to maintain and improve quality management system is as hard a job as to set it working.

The director of Smolensk NPP Andrey Petrov said: “The certificate has been given for three years, but this does not mean that we are going to sit back and enjoy it. We are just starting our work.” Petrov thanked the Bureau Veritas Certification Rus and the personnel of Smolensk NPP and pointed out that this certificate is the result of huge work. “By your work you have proved that Smolensk NPP is one of the leading enterprises of our nuclear power industry,” Petrov said.
