Ecologists Visited LNPP
OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2007. The first thing they wanted to know was how Leningrad NPP produces electricity, reported the press-centre of Leningrad NPP.
The ecologists visited the operating unit of the plant, inspected the waste-ways, went to Sosnovy Bor, the satellite city of LNPP.
“Nuclear power plant is the optimal type of power generation for our region and Leningrad NPP proves this thesis,” the vice president of the foundation Vladimir Kipovsky said.
“Today, there is no alternative to nuclear energy and will hardly be in the near future. NPPs are the ecologically safest and technologically most progressive power plants. This is the opinion of many ecological and public organizations.”
“LNPP is ecologically safe. It has a very insignificant thermal effect on the water of the Gulf of Finland: it cannot be compared with the extent of the contamination of the Neva Bay. St.Petersburg is the biggest city of the Baltic Sea region and it has quite a big effect on the sea. The city depends on the water of the Gulf of Finland. So, we must try to further improve our water use technologies,” Kipovsky said.
