OREANDA-NEWS. On August 20, 2007 the Information Department of Leningrad NPP has released a press statement about the emergency response exercises to be conducted in Sosnovy Bor and LNPP Sept 19–21 2007, reported the press-centre of Leningrad NPP.

However, some e-media (47news.ru, allnews.ru and others) have decided to make a pseudo sensation of our report “In Sept LNPP will host complex emergency response exercises” by issuing articles like “Nuclear Alarm: Sosnovy Bor Is Being Evacuated to Volosovo.” These allegations have received wide response among the population: lots of angry and concerned people are calling us to learn if this is true.

But this is a mere allegation, a gossip that has nothing to do with reality!

The source of the rumor – the editor’s office of 47news — has already apologized to us and has corrected its mistake. But it seems to be late – the news has gone on internet.

We would like to note that our report about the forthcoming exercises was meant just for notifying the population and the mass media of the region of this big event.

Today, the radiation situation at LNPP and in Sosnovy Bor is within norm. The plant is operating safely and efficiently.

The maximum radiation background in the 30-km zone is 0.14 mSv/h, which is normal for the area.
