OREANDA-NEWS. July 27, 2007. Smolensk NPP Has Produced Its 10,000,000,000th KWh. This is 255bln KWh more than planned and this is the result of the collective effort of the whole staff of the plant - their high responsibility, efficiency and professionalism.

Smolensk NPP is the biggest power company of North-Western Russia. It has three RBMK-1000 units producing almost 20bln KWh a year, which is almost 1/7 of the total nuclear power production.

For many years already Smolensk NPP has been recognized as one of the best nuclear power plants of Russia in both economy and safety. In 1992 the plant produced 22bln KWh - all-time biggest output - and was proclaimed as the Best NPP of Russia; in 1992 the plant was the best in Rosenergoatom contest; in 1999 it was among the best three in Russia; in 2000 - the best at the All-Russian Contest “Russian Organization of High Social Efficiency”; in 2005 - the best in safety culture.

In Dec 2007 Smolensk NPP will mark 25th birthday. Since its launch the plant has produced over 412bln KWh with no serious incidents or radiation effects on the environment recorded. The radiation situation at the plant and in the nearby area has always been within norm.
