OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2007. On the night of 25-16 July heavy thunder storms with showery rain occurred in the central part of the Russian Federation.

The whole night heavy thunder storms with showery rain, hail and gale force wind with the speed up to 30 msec occurred in the Tambov region cut off 600 transformer substations. The following small populated districts suffered particularly:  Michurinsk, Zherdevka and Tambov.

From the early morning the power engineers started to eliminate the aftermaths of the natural disaster. The Emergency operation center consisting of responsible directors who control restoration activities under the direction of JSC “IDGC of Center and North Caucasus” specialists was established in JSC “Tambovenergo”. The work involves 30 crews and over 40 technical vehicles.

“The majority of feeders are situated in hard to reach places, in forest area or swampland. This creates obstacles for the work of the vehicles, - said Sergei Chichev, Head of the Central Dispatcher Service of JSC ‘Tambovenergo”. – The showery rain is not stopping.  The nasty weather causes problems for their activities. Nevertheless, the power engineers of the joint stock company make every effort to restore the cut-off power supply in a short period of time”.
The half of the cut-off transformer substations have been already powered by 10:00 am in July 26.

In the Voronezh region where the natural disaster occurred as well, the work of 14 kV HVL and 290 transformer substations out of 584 transformer substations and 28 lines which were damaged at night, has been already restored.
The emergency activities were started after the thunder storm had stopped. The work involves 20 crews from JSC “Voronezhenergo”.

The power supply of small populated Schchigrovsky, Timsky and Cheremisinivsky districts in Kusrsk region was cut off as a result of the thunder storm. Over 25 teams with the needed technical vehicles, materials worked to restore the power supply in the region.

It is planned to restore power supply by the evening.
