NEVZ Manufactured a New Electric Locomotive Adjusted to the Far East
OREANDA-NEWS. June 27, 2007. The Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ, a CJSC Transmashholding member) has manufactured the EP1P main line passenger electric locomotive adjusted to provide more effective operation in the Primorsky Kray.
The locomotive headed for the Bataysk depot of the North-Caucasian Railway for a 500 exploitation run on June 22, 2007. After that, the EP1P is to undergo certification tests.
The EP1P is a EP1M electric locomotive derivative. The changes include the gear unit ratio and software. The locomotive design makes it capable of leading not only passenger units, but also freight ones of a comparably law weight.
The EP1P has been designed on the Far East Railway initiative. The new locomotive is aimed at solving the problem of leading units on steep slopes challenged by high humidity worsening adhesion of the locomotive wheels with the track. The 24 car units need two EP1 multiple unit electric locomotives on steep slopes in the Primorsky Kray, which will now be substituted by one EP1P. The latter’s advantages constitute in better tractor performance and a tractor drive with higher reduction ratio.
NEVZ will have manufactured 10 EP1Ps by the close of 2007.
