Belarus’ President Demands to Boost Exports
OREANDA-NEWS. On June 11, 2007 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demanded to continue boosting exports to keep the currency market stable. The Belarusian head of state gave corresponding instructions today during the installation ceremony for chairman of the Minsk regional executive committee Leonid Krupets, reported the press-centre of Gomel Invest.
“Issues relating to the export are becoming very urgent. The situation in this field is still difficult in the country in the whole as well as in Minsk oblast”, the Belarusian leader underlined.
According to him, Minsk oblast did not manage to fulfill the goal on boosting exports last year and is not meeting it this year. “Moreover, in Q1 2007 the oblast even reduced the export. If we sell less it means we will not get currency. The most serious problem for us is destabilization of the financial market. Belarus will not let default happen. And we were close to default at the end of 2007 – beginning of 2007, when we had limited resources and when Russia pushed up energy prices.” said Alexander Lukashenko.
He has noted it took Belarus 4-5 months to restore the situation. The population makes more deposits than before the crisis,” the President underlined.
Alexander Lukashenko added that “everything will be OK in the economic sector if we sell more than buy. As if we sell fewer goods than we import we will face default. And this is a terrible phenomenon”, the President said.
