OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2007. In Riyadh representatives of OAO Stroytransgaz (STG) and Minister of Water and Electricity of Saudi Arabia signed a contract, according to which STG would take part in construction of the Shuqaiq Water Transmission System, Phase II.
Owner of the Project in the value of about US $ 1 billion is a state Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC). Total length of the water transmission system, consisting of six 60” pipelines makes around 900 km. Sea water will be desalinated at a new and biggest in the country desalination plant, construction of which has been started in a township Shuqaiq, and then be transported by water pipelines to the townships and localities of Assir and Djazan provinces. Population of these and some other areas of Saudi Arabia, adjacent to the Red Sea is lacking fresh water due to limited capacities of existing water supply systems.
Project will be realized during three years by a Consortium, comprising the Saudi Arabian Company Aziz Co. LTD. and OAO Stroytransgaz in the south-west part of the country at the Red Sea seaboard. The Russian Company will provide technical assistance to its local partner.
Contract for construction of the Shuqaiq Water Transmission System, Phase II is the second success of OAO Stroytransgaz in the Saudi Arabian market. In March of this year STG signed a contract with the world largest oil Company Saudi Aramco for construction of the oil pipeline Shaybah-Abquaiq.
