OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2007. Mid-term repair of 1st and 4th units and overhaul of 2nd unit planned at Balakovo NPP. The 1st unit will be stopped on July 21.

Besides, the plant will stop its 2nd unit for 18 months for enhancing its capacity to 104%. At the 2nd and 4th units the personnel will modernize the reloaders, at the 1st and 2nd units they will launch preliminary separation units for the reheating systems, at the 4th unit – upgrade the automated turbine regulation system, etc.

Special attention will be given to the preparations for the IAEA OSART mission 2008.

The peculiarity of this year’s repairs is that this time they are planned exactly for the standard period – 45 days for mid-term repair and 70 days for overhaul. Previously, repairs were planned for periods longer than the standard; the periods were reduced later in the course of the repairs.

The Training Center of Balakovo NPP has organized training courses for repair personnel and contractor companies. After the course the personnel will be tested for their knowledge of the rules and norms existing in the nuclear power industry.
