Petroleum Development of Oman Certifies VSW as Pipe Supplier
OREANDA-NEWS. May 18, 2007. Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO), Sultanate of Oman, a leader in the Middle East energy market, has included Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), in its list of certified suppliers of main pipes.
Petroleum Development of Oman is a subsidiary of Shell. PDO accounts for more than 90% of the Sultanate of Oman's crude oil production and nearly 100% of the country's natural gas supply.
Earlier, in 2006, VSW was included in the list of pipe suppliers that fully comply with Shell's DEP (Design and Engineering Practices) criteria.
According to OMK President Vladimir Markin, "ОМК, having become one of the world's leading manufacturers of pipes for oil and gas pipelines, intends to increase its exports. We are interested in the Middle East markets, and in the years coming our Company plans to become a supplier of oil and gas pipes for this region, the world's leader for discovered and proved reserves of carbohydrates."
ОМК is carrying out integrated work toward mastering new types of pipes for the world's leading energy companies. In April, VSW produced a trial batch of large-diameter pipes with the working pressure of 220 atm designed for subsea pipelines according to the standards of Norway-based Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the Nord Stream project specification. According to the test results, OMK's production technology was certified as complying with DNV-OS-F101.
