OREANDA-NEWS. On April 19, 2007 a ceremony to award winners of the All-Russian forest industry prize Lesprom.ru took part in Moscow. The winner in the category “Efficient forest management” was forest industry corporation Ilim Pulp, reported the press-centre of Ilim Pulp.

Ilim Pulp is Russia’s largest private forest leasing company. Its subsidiaries log over 7,5 mln cu metres of wood each year. The company’s forest management is aligned to both Russian and international standards. Over 4 mln hectares leased by Ilim Pulp are certified according to the principles of Forest Stewardship Council. Ilim Pulp carries out reforestation on all the 27,900 hectares of its clear-cutting lands.

Lesprom.ru prize is awarded to forestry companies and journalists making a major contribution to Russian forestry. The prize was established by Lesprom.ru, a Russian information and trading system. The jury traditionally includes Russian officials, representatives of the country’s forestry companies and ecological organizations, as well as journalists. This year the competition includes 16 nominations.
