The 2nd Unit of Kursk NPP Was Restarted after Planned Repairs on Apr 14 6.51 PM
OREANDA-NEWS. The repairs were started on Nov 11 2006. A total of 350 assembly channels have been replaced. The key objective of the repairs was to prolong the life and to enhance the safety of the unit. For this purpose, the personnel has tested its systems and modernized and replaced the outdated technological, electro-technical and mechanical equipment.
On Apr 15 7.00 AM the 1st unit of Kursk NPP was suspended because of the lack of electricity demand on the federal wholesale market. The unit is to be restarted on Apr 24.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th units are operative. The radioactive emissions are within norm. On Apr 14-15 the gamma radiation background at the plant and in the nearby area was within 0,06-0,13 mSv/h, which is the same as in 1975, when the NPP was launched.
