OREANDA-NEWS. Every year ING publishes a corporate responsibility report to inform our stakeholders on ING’s activities in the field of corporate responsibility and the issues that have occurred that year, reported the press-centre of ING-Bank.

This year we have published two reports that together form ING’s Corporate Responsibility Report 2006:
CR Big Picture Report
CR Performance Report

As an international financial services company with 120,000 employees and over 60 million customers globally, ING has an impact on society and the environment both directly through our operations and indirectly through the provision of financial services and the purchase of goods and services. For ING, corporate responsibility is a fundamental part of our strategy: ethical, social, and environmental factors play an integral role in our business decisions. In 2006 ING adopted the revised Equator Principles which mitigate social and environmental risks inherent in project financing, and we signed up to the UN Global Compact, demonstrating the importance ING attaches to human rights, environmental care and ethical business practices.

We support the communities in which we operate through both employee involvement and donations. To create a strong basis for all our global community development initiatives, we launched the ‘ING Chances for Children’ programme. The aim is to help give young people opportunities for a better future by funding schooling projects.
In 2006, we compensated all ING’s CO2 emissions caused by business travel, and in the Netherlands 44% of the energy we purchased was derived from renewable sources. Around the world, initiatives are in place to reduce the usage of energy and paper. Equally important, ING is involved in the global debate on climate change, as evidenced by our membership of the Global Round Table on Climate Change. In 2007, ING will become fully carbon neutral.
