Russian Railways to Set Up Trading House
OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2007 the new Trading House being set up by Russian Railways will be responsible for positioning the Company and its subsidiaries on foreign markets and studying the external market for infrastructure projects, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways. According to Alexei Mersiyanov, Vice-President at Russian Railways, “the Trading House will allow Russian Railways to participate in tenders and develop proposals from foreign partners. Its staff will also study the financial conditions and aspects of the contracts. Initially, we envisage concentrating the Company’s participation in projects to develop the railway system in Libya and in tenders on automation systems and telecontrol to build a North-South Railway in Saudi Arabia, as well as participation in the tender for the commercial and technical aspects of operating this project".
The Trading House will also promote Russian automation and telecontrol systems in India, with plans to create participate in the construction and reconstruction of India’s rail infrastructure as part of the Indian government’s state programme for the development of railway lines in the country, in particular two lines between Calcutta and Delhi and between Mumbai and Delhi. The Trading House will thus be able to provide services to promote the products of Russia’s manufacturers in the transportation field. All the above projects are still being developed. The legal aspects regarding the establishment of the Trading House will be decided on 30 March 2007.
