Alstom has been awarded the trophy of innovation for public transport
OREANDA-NEWS. Alstom has been awarded the trophy of innovation for public transport in the energy and environment category for its latest catenary-free energy supply technology, SRS, at the European Mobility Exhibition, which is being held in Paris from 14-16 June 2016.
SRS, developed by Alstom experts based in Vitrolles (Provence-Alpes-C?te d’Azur) and Saint-Ouen (Ile-de-France) will be put into service on future lines 2 & 3 of the Nice tramway in time for 2018. The solution supplies power to the tram’s on-board energy storage system (supercapacitors) during stops in passenger stations in under 20 seconds, automatically and in total security. The recharging takes place via contact blocks fitted under the tram, which are in contact with a ground-based conductive rail.
SRS can also be used as a convenient, rapid and powerful recharging solution for road vehicles (electrical buses or electrical trucks for urban distribution, equipped with an on-board energy storage system). In these cases, the power is provided via ground-based recharging slots at passenger stops or at the terminus.
SRS is based on the operational and safety standards of APS, the tried and tested solution notably adopted by the tramways of Bordeaux, Reims, Dubai and Rio. This non-proprietary solution is compatible with all types of tramways or buses.
