OREANDA-NEWS. June 07, 2016. During the two-week placement, participants were given an insight into the HR, Finance, Real Estate, Procurement and IT functions within BAE Systems’ Shared Services business, and a taster of what it is like to work at the Company. They got involved in a range of programmes, providing administrative and customer service support to their assigned function.

A celebration event, giving participants the opportunity to share their experiences with senior leaders from BAE Systems, was held on Friday at Preston North End Football Club.

Richard Baker, Director of HR Services at BAE Systems, who hosted the celebration event said:

“We’re proud to be part of the Movement to Work scheme and the feedback we’ve received from the participants on this latest intake has been hugely positive. The work experience and vocational training the young people receive during the placement really helps them secure future employment. We have a number of employees across the Company who have successfully come through this scheme in previous years.”

Alex Green, one of this year’s participants in the Movement to Work scheme, said:

“The Movement to Work scheme was a really enjoyable experience. My work placement was in the Indirect Procurement Services function of BAE Systems in Preston. Everyone was so welcoming and hardworking, I instantly felt a part of the team. Since being on my placement, I have gained a wide range of knowledge about BAE Systems, and their systems and processes. During the two-week vocational training with The Prince’s Trust and The Launch Group, I built up my confidence and enhanced my skills to get me back into work. Overall, I would really recommend the programme to any young people who get the opportunity to participate.”

Frazer Rogers from BAE Systems’ Shared Services HR Services function, and a previous participant in the Movement to Work scheme, explained:
“The scheme helped me dramatically. During the placement, I was given a real insight into the workings of the business and was tasked with responsibility across various teams and functions from communications, project management and HR administration. It was a truly remarkable experience and a real opportunity to move in to work.”

In addition to the two-week placement at BAE Systems, the group spent two weeks working with The Launch Group and The Prince’s Trust, gaining valuable employability training including CV writing, interview skills and team-work.

Movement to Work is a voluntary collaboration of UK employers committed to providing long-term unemployed young people with valuable experience and vocational training to help them find employment.

BAE Systems has supported the Movement to Work programme since 2014.  BAE Systems’ Shared Services business has taken 24 young people through the Movement to Work scheme, 11 of whom are currently employed with BAE Systems. Overall, 68 young people are now employed by BAE Systems, across the country, as a result of their participation in the scheme and in 2016, the Company has pledged 100 work experience placements annually as part of its commitment Movement to Work.
