Honeywell to Showcase The Connected Airport Of The Future At The Airport Show 2016 In Dubai
OREANDA-NEWS. May 20, 2016. Honeywell (NYSE:HON), a trusted provider of intelligent airport solutions worldwide, is presenting its vision of the Connected Airport at The Airport Show 2016 being held May 9-11 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC). Honeywell will be exhibiting in Hall 5 at Stand 5150.
On the heels of Dubai Airports’ recent announcement of the successful implementation of Honeywell’s “Follow the Greens” airfield guidance system, Honeywell will showcase its cutting-edge ground traffic management (GTM) technology. The Honeywell technology brings about streamlined operations, optimised ground traffic flow and reduced controller-pilot communications. The solution also helps reduce taxi times, saves fuel and cuts emissions while improving taxiway safety. Other technologies on display will include Honeywell’s SmartPath® ground-based augmentation system (GBAS), which provides a cost-effective precision navigation solution to increase airport capacity, decrease air traffic noise and reduce weather-related delays.“The Airport Show 2016 is a great platform for us to be able to talk to our customers about the depth and breadth of our technologies, which are currently used in more than 500 airports worldwide,” said Sonja Strand, general manager for Honeywell’s global airports business. “With more than 100 years’ experience in aviation and airports, Honeywell is a trusted name in the industry, and we are keen to share our technology vision for the airport of the future in addition to our integrated building management solutions which are widely used to make airports smarter.”
Airports lead the Middle East for ‘smartness’
The future potential – and the current progress – of regional airports was highlighted in a recent study by Honeywell, researchers Nielsen and global advisors Ernst & Young.
The Honeywell Smart Building Score™, the first-of-its-kind global index designed for the comprehensive assessment of any building, evaluated 620 buildings across seven major Middle East cities: Abu Dhabi, Dammam, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait City and Riyadh. The study evaluated a building’s use of 15 technology assets to find out which systems are in place to make them green, safe and productive — the three main indicators of smart buildings. The systems’ overall capabilities, coverage of the facility and uptime were then factored in.
The survey showed that airports are leading the way for smart buildings in the region compared with other surveyed industries (hotels, hospitals, office and residential buildings, education and retail). Airports scored the highest across all verticals, leading in all categories that are considered to make a building smart – green, safe and productive – scoring an average of 80 out of a possible 100.Whilst showcasing the overall “smartness” of the region’s airports, the study also revealed great opportunities to drive improvements.
“Honeywell's fully integrated building solutions promote safe, efficient and comfortable passage throughout an airport terminal, and enhance passenger experiences while promoting a smarter, more secure and more pleasant environment,” said Pete Costa, vice president for Honeywell’s Automation and Control Solutions, Middle East. “The region’s airports have every opportunity to lead the way for the industry on a global scale, when it comes to embracing and deploying smart building technology.”
Airports in the region can be made smarter through the improved integration of technology assets, as well as increased capability, availability and uptime. To improve safety, integrated security management systems and systems that recognize cyber threats such as potential internal and external attackers will be of huge benefit. To make airports more productive, on the other hand, the availability and strength of Wi-Fi can be increased along with improvements in the coverage of emergency power systems.
