OREANDA-NEWS. May 04, 2016. The Ukrainian Government will take steps to appeal any unlawful decisions of judges that prevent holding open competitions for the appointment of CEOs of state-owned enterprises. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman at an extraordinary Cabinet’s meeting.

"We will not allow anyone to disrupt the process of curbing corruption and an honest public selection of heads of state-owned enterprises", announced Volodymyr Groysman.

The Prime Minister noted that certain courts in Ukraine made decisions that stop the process of holding open transparent competitions for the appointment of leaders to state-owned enterprises. "Certainly, we will spare no effort to ensure that pursuant to the legislation to have such decisions falsified and to get fair decisions," he stressed.

Volodymyr Groysman informed that he had instructed the Ministry of Justice to analyze each case when judges had taken illegal judgments. The Prime Minister also urged Ministers to assume personal control over this issue and to intensify the work of all legal departments and services to defend the interests of the state in courts. "We are not going to influence anybody, we're not going to scare anyone - we are going to scrupulously do our job," stressed Volodymyr Groysman.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Government would publish a list of such public enterprises. "We will not allow anyone to parasitize on public property, which must be effectively used, thereby funds from effective activity of the public sector should be transferred to the state budget, and that means salaries and pensions, free medicines, and more," he said.

As soon as the data regarding the improper judicial decisions is prepared, it will be publicly discussed at a meeting of the Government, promised the PM.

"The Ukrainian Government will take steps to ensure that chairmen of state-owned companies, in which there exists a potential threat of corruption, were selected through public contests. Not by backstair influence, not in hiding, but openly”, said Volodymyr Groysman, noting that the procedure for electing leaders through open competitions also applies to agencies of central authorities. “It means openness, transparency, the ability to choose effective managers, and this is, definitely, an anti-corruption step."

"We will not allow the situation when limited number of unscrupulous judges constrain the entire judicial system in Ukraine", emphasized the Prime Minister.
