OREANDA-NEWS. Deutsche Telekom will be showcasing at Hannover Messe 2016 its new Cloud Fieldbus service within the framework of the Cloud of Things. The platform enhancement reduces the overhead involved in connecting machinery and equipment which use the Modbus TCP communications protocol. Modbus TCP is one of the most frequently used communications protocols for production equipment. The simple integration of this de facto standard in automation technology thus helps manufacturing companies in particular to reap the benefits of the Internet of Things sooner.

Simple digitization
Companies simply need to connect their machinery and equipment using a special mobile communications gateway and then register them via the Cloud of Things user interface. In the past this always required a huge amount of programming. Now companies can use the platform to access their machinery and equipment along with stored data in a matter of minutes.

All of which makes it much easier for small and medium-sized enterprises in particular to embrace the digital economy. Instead of investing in inhouse hardware and software as well as integration, they can flexibly add on the solution at a fixed price per machine. Deutsche Telekom hosts the Cloud of Things in its powerful, secure data centers, making the solution highly scalable. Small and medium-sized enterprises can thus start with a pilot project and then gradually digitize their business.

Cockpit for the digital revolution
Deutsche Telekom initially presented the Cloud of Things at CeBIT 2015. Companies can control their machinery via the platform and also access all operating data. Routine work such as machine maintenance can be completed remotely with ease. In the event of problems such as serious wear and tear, the platform immediately notifies a technician. The open programming interfaces also allows companies to incorporate the platform seamlessly into the existing IT environment, thus simplifying their business processes.

Deutsche Telekom is augmenting the Cloud of Things with Cloud Fieldbus, together with its partner Cumolocity, making the Internet of Things easily accessible for small and medium-sized enterprises.
