ROSATOM International Network and Korean Atomic Industrial Forum signed Memorandum of Understanding
The signing ceremony was held on April 20th, at the 2016 Korea Atomic Power (KAP) Annual Conference in Busan. On behalf of the Russian side Alexander Merten, President of RAIN, signed the document. Kye-Hong Min, Executive Vice Chairman of KAIF, was the signer from the Korean side.
The MoU aims at the enhancement of the dialogue between the nuclear industries of the countries. The parties agreed to constantly exchange information, to cooperate in the public acceptance of nuclear technologies, and to facilitate the nuclear industry human resources development. RAIN and KAIF will also combine efforts to support Russian and Korean enterprises in the establishment of partnerships in various spheres.
“Russia historically has close ties with the Korean nuclear industry. The first was contract for the supply of enriched uranium to Korea was concluded by TENEX as early as in 1988, while the first MoU with KAIF we signed in 1991”, Alexander Merten said. According to him, ROSATOM was in close cooperation with Korean companies in the nuclear fuel cycle domain: TENEX continues to provide the long-term enriched uranium supply for Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP), which is the operator of all Korean nuclear power plants, and for that purpose since 2015 TENEX has been using Vostochny Port in the Russian Far East. “There are plenty of other opportunities for the development of cooperation in various areas. So the document we signed today will give a fresh impetus to this work”, Alexander Merten concluded.
“Cooperation with RAIN will improve the mutual development of nuclear industry and sharing information and exchanging opinions for not only fuel cycle business but also nuclear plant construction and operation in Russia and Korea. KAIF is also willing to work with RAIN in our continued commitment to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy“, said Kye-Hong Min
