Mohu recalls Android BeBox speaker due to fire risk
OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2016. Mohu has declared it is recalling its BeBox Android jukebox due to the potential for overheating or fire, despite only being on the market for a few months.
Mohu, best known for producing "flat" indoor antennas, says one of its BeBox units caught fire in an "unmonitored test." Mohu says while it is still investigating the cause it urges customers to return their units due to the potential dangers the unit poses. The company says the issue affects all of the models produced.
In regards to CNET's question whether the device was now discontinued the company wrote: "Mohu is currently investigating the cause of the defect in compliance with Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations, and will cease to sell or manufacture this product, indefinitely".
The Mohu BeBox is a portable wireless (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) speaker that the company claimed was capable of 8 hours of battery life. It was designed to compete with smaller Bluetooth-only speakers such as the Bose SoundLink but also enabled customers to install their own Android streaming apps.
