Android Pay dangles 2GB of free data for Verizon subscribers
Launched last September, Google's Android payments system works with credit and debit cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, as well with certain loyalty cards and gift cards. Financial institutions that handle Android Pay include Bank of America, Citi, USAA and Wells Fargo. The technology supports such retailers as GameStop, Macy's, McDonald's, Staples, Subway and Walgreens.
Still, Android Pay hasn't yet caught on as well as Samsung Pay and Apple Pay, both of which have won more allies in the long, slow march by mobile companies to convince consumers to pay for goods using their phones. Signing up Verizon, the largest wireless company in the US by number of subscribers, should help.
Not every Android phone will work with the payments service, so check the Android Pay app at the Google Play store and see if your phone is listed as compatible. (The phone has to support technologies known as NFC and HCE.)
The offer ends June 14, and your free data must be redeemed by July 13. The promotion is available only to Verizon postpaid customers with the Verizon Plan or the More Everything Plan.
