(NYSE: XYL), a leading global water technology company dedicated to solving the world's most challenging water issues, will participate in keynote addresses, leadership forums, workshops and technical sessions at the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition, which will take place in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, October 9 – 14.

Xylem will explore the importance of understanding lifecycle costs when evaluating water infrastructure investments.  While the initial costs may be higher, more advanced, sustainable technologies can deliver a superior performance, improve resiliency and have lower total lifecycle costs than their less efficient counterparts.  However, some municipalities take a short term approach to wastewater management due to funding constraints. 

The Water Scarcity and Drought Summit taking place during the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition will offer new insights into how pioneering science, technological innovation and leading practices are shaping the major transformation in water management that is underway.

One year ago, more than 190 countries voted to adopt 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which define a shared vision for 2030 and serve as a blueprint for tackling the global challenges of poverty, lack of clean water and sanitation, climate change and inequality. Key among them is water management because water has broad-ranging impact on social, economic and environmental dimensions, which are vital to achieving sustainable development.  Advanced technologies can deliver energy efficiency improvements, emissions abatement and lower energy costs, all of which can help governments better afford additional investments in clean water and improved sanitation, as well as for the mitigation and adaptation to climate change effects, such as drought and flooding.

Leung will participate as a panelist? in the opening keynote of the day by John Thwaites entitled "The Sustainable Development Goals: an opportunity too good to miss." This will be followed by the Water Scarcity & Drought Summit, where approximately 200 participants from around the world will convene to explore new solutions to these growing issues.

On Tuesday, October 11, Xylem Senior Analyst, Strategy and Business Development, Randolf Webb will participate in the City Leaders Forum. The Forum, provides a unique opportunity to bring together City Leaders to share their water successes and challenges, while looking through the lens of the Principles for Water Wise Cities to identify the key success factors and bottlenecks to meeting locally the national goals that have been agreed to by governments around the world.

During the Forum, IWA's Principles for Water Wise Cities will be officially launched. Xylem endorses the IWA Principles, which are designed to inspire urban stakeholders to forge a shared, progressive vision on sustainable urban water, and to guide innovation, planning and implementation for future Water Wise Cities.

Xylem is the main sponsor of the Emerging Technologies & Innovation Forum (ET&I) on October 10 – 13. This event will feature selected start-up technology companies pitching their innovation at the pavilion. Xylem Sales & Industry Marketing Director for Oceania, Brian Krishna, will kick-off the first session and serve on the jury.

The ET&I pavilion, in the exhibition hall, booth 812 will feature the world's first wastewater pumping system with integrated intelligence, Xylem's Flygt Concertor, which will be presented on Monday October 10 by Xylem Director, Project Management for Flygt, Stefan Abelin.

 On Wednesday October 13, Xylem Randolf Webb will host a workshop on Powering the Wastewater Renaissance: the Path to Cutting Emissions and Saving Billions in Wastewater Sector.

Xylem executives will also present seven academic papers during the event on topics ranging from advanced drinking water treatment developments and sustainable water reuse solutions to cloud-based lifecycle cost benefits and intelligent wastewater pumping.
