Tesla announces new Model X 60D base model
Tesla now offers a Model X with the same 60-kWh battery capacity as the Model S sedan. This new Model X 60D, which features standard all-wheel drive, will cost buyers \\$74,000 before any incentives. That represents a \\$9,000 price cut over the former base model, the Model X 75D.
Of course, you'll have to make do with less if you want the new base model. Range is down to about 200 miles from 237. However, its 150-mph top speed and 6.0-second 0-to-60 time remain the same.
As with the Model S, 60-kWh Model X owners can later pay to "unlock" an extra 15 kWh of battery capacity, bumping it up to 75 kWh total. Tesla does this with the Model S, as well. The Model X unlock will cost \\$9,500, so if you really want that extra range, it's cheaper to opt for the 75-kWh model from the get-go.
