Declassified USSR State Bank Documents Published
OREANDA-NEWS. The Bank of Russia publishes on its website, for the first time, part of the serial publication titled 'Overview of Bank of Russia Archives'. Between 2006 and 2014, this publication was available as a limited paper edition (800 copies) and released only to authorities, research and development establishments, libraries and archival facilities, including regional ones. The regulator website currently hosts 16 releases of the series, together with No. 17, the new one, with open access to readers.
The content in all releases is arranged chronologically to cover a span of time from the first Soviet Government days through the early 1990s, the time the USSR State Bank was closing its operations.
The first three releases feature data on household income and consumption in the period between 1924 and 1990s, cash circulation between 1922 and 1990, documents on money supply during the Great Patriotic War and an expert opinion on the 1961 monetary reform, to name just a few.
Also, Release No. 17 features documents related to human resources management at the USSR State Bank. These include, declassified and previously unreleased, bank executive submittals to the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (CPSU), special sections in annual State Bank reports, HR reports, correspondence between the national political leaders and the USSR State Bank, etc.
Recently, efforts are being made to declassify Soviet archival documents by the Interdepartmental State Secrets Protection Commission. These efforts have resulted in a substantial number of the USSR State Bank and other economic authorities' documents becoming declassified and publicly available.
Moving forward, these efforts are expected to continue.
