Bombardier Presents its Advanced Mobility Solutions at Africa Rail
OREANDA-NEWS. Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is showcasing its advanced mobility solutions and local manufacturing approach at Africa Rail 2017, in Johannesburg from June 13 to 14. Meet the Bombardier team at AfricaRail 2017 at Stand F1, Hall 1, in the Sandton Convention Centre.
Exhibition highlights will include a presentation on the BOMBARDIER TRAXX Africa locomotive which is being produced in South Africa for Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), just one example of Bombardier’s contributions to developing mobility in Africa.
"With 240 TRAXX Africa locomotives ordered for production, and six already produced, we are fully committed to the South African market and to developing local manufacturing capabilities and strong supply chains there. Resulting in new jobs and skills development, this will ensure a sustainable future for the nation’s industry", commented Aubrey Lekwane, Managing Director Bombardier Transportation South Africa.
Bombardier will also showcase its growing number of transportation projects across Africa, and in South Africa in particular. One example is the Gautrain rapid transit link, for which 96 BOMBARDIER ELECTROSTAR vehicles are undergoing final assembly in South Africa. Another ongoing projects is to provide the latest rail control solutions on Durban’s main corridors. Further afield, Bombardier is upgrading major freight and passenger connections in Algeria, Ethiopia and Morocco with the latest BOMBARDIER INTERFLO mainline signalling technology.
Committed to covering the complete range of railway requirements, Bombardier’s Services team is also setting high standards in South Africa through ongoing refurbishment programmes, such as on the Coal Line fleet in Richards Bay, as well as introducing innovative maintenance optimisation tools being pioneered by the Gautrain team.
With over 150 employees in South Africa alone and a well-established network of local partners, Bombardier is committed to creating local jobs and expertise. This has most recently been reflected in the opening of its new Propulsions and Controls manufacturing facility in Johannesburg in 2016 and its new Regional Centre of Competence for Rail Control Solutions opening in Addis Ababa this year.
