PM of Ukraine Instructed to Develop Program for Pedestrian Crossings
OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2012. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has instructed Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko and vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul who ensures the fulfillment of tasks and powers in the areas of infrastructure, regional development, construction, utilities and housing economy to prepare a program of resettlement of pedestrian crossings. He said this on his page on Facebook.
According to him, unfortunately a large number of accidents on the roads happen in Ukraine. Of course, Mykola Azarov said, you should cross the road only in the designated areas. At the same time, the situation on the roads indicates that even the crossing in the designated areas does not ensure the safety of pedestrians.
"That is why I ordered the Interior Minister and vice Prime Minister on regional policy to prepare the program of construction of pedestrian crossings" - Mykola Azarov said, adding that such crossing should be well lit (at least within the settlements), equipped with warning signs, should include reducing speed. It is necessary to exercise tight control over drivers who violate the rules of driving through pedestrian crossings. Where necessary, PM said, should equip pedestrian tunnel or pedestrian overpass.
"In short, there is a problem, it is serious enough and it must be solved" - Mykola Azarov said.
