Turkmenistan Takes Measures to Protect Crops
OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2012. Agricultural measures on care of crops are continued on the rice fields of the country, which total area is 18 thousand 300 hectares. In these days, it is actively carried out the additional fertilizing of soils with nitrogen fertilizers on agrarian areas and control over constant supply of essential volume of water on the fields.
Taking into account the soil and climatic conditions that are favorable for “pearly white grain”, rice is traditionally sown in two regions of the country – Dashoguz province (etrap named after S. Turkmenbashi) and a series of etraps of Lebap province as Galkynysh, Halach, Atamyrat and named after Turkmenbashi the Great.
Principal sorts of rice, which are cultivated on the agricultural fields of the country according to the practice of many years, differ by high crop capacity, early maturation, drought- and disease-resistance. Among them, it is worth mentioning the sorts “Nukus-2”, “Ak merjen”, “Avangard”. As a rule, sowing of seeds is carried out after first harvest of winter wheat. Sowing of intermediate crop usually goes on till the end of June.
Rice harvesting campaign traditionally starts in first month of autumn. Turkmen grain-growers plan to yield 80 thousand 600 tons of rice in the current year.
