WHO Intends to Expand Cooperation with Azerbaijan to Fight Malaria
OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2011. World Health Organization’s experts have arrived in Azerbaijan within the framework of the program on combating malaria and other parasitic diseases.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Health reports that today WHO’s Global Malaria Programme head Robert Newman and director of the program on malaria and other parasitic diseases Mikhail Yezhov have held a meeting with local experts in this field.
During the meeting the guests got acquainted with Azerbaijan’s achievements in fight against malaria and discussed possibilities of expanding cooperation in this sphere.
Within their Baku stay the WHO experts will visit the endemic area of malaria, meet with officials of partner agencies and offices and become familiar with the agencies engaged in this field.
In 2008, Azerbaijan adopted a national strategy and an action plan for malaria control for 2008-13. The ultimate goal of the National Strategy is to prevent new cases of malaria in malarious areas and its elimination by 2013.
