Azerbaijan Opened Unique Customs Point on Border with Georgia
OREANDA-NEWS. February 09, 2011. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan visited Gazagh within the visit to the country’s west region.
In particular the President took part in the opening of custom border point Sinigkorpu in Gazagh region.
At the opening chairman of State Customs Committee Aydin ALIYev noted that the customs service is being updated more. Necessary measures are taken to improve the employees ’ social and labor conditions and major reconstruction of this custom point is the continuation of this work.
Construction works in Sinigkorpu started in October 2010. Along with ancillary buildings at the point territory there has also been constructed a three-storeyed administrative building. Only Azerbaijan has modern custom border points of this type in South- Caucasus region. In future it is planned to build a new cargo terminal at this territory, one of the largest in the region. It is planned to build cold stores for storing products, a hotel for passengers and office.
The latest X-ray machine has been installed at the checkpoint allowing not only detect the cargo carried in smuggling but also contributing to building up customer service work at the level of modern requirements.
At present there are four lines of customs control at the checkpoint. Two of them are for export and other two are for import customs control. " One stop shop" system is created in the checkpoint where employees of cargo, financial , and road taxation departments work. Also the checkpoint includes quarantine, phytosanitary and veterinary control services.
