Balkan Velayat Starts 2010 Harvest Campaign
OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2010. Grain growers of Balkan Velayat joined the harvest campaign. In the western region of the country grain growers of the Azatlyk farmers association in Serdar Etrap were the first to start the harvest campaign. By tradition, the elders blessed the start of the campaign by mowing down the first reaped ears and presenting the sheaves to combine operators.
The sowing area in Balkan Velayat occupies over 80,000 hectares. The choice of the area and wheat varieties to be sown in the region was conditioned by the local soil and climatic conditions. The most of this area was sown with the high-yielding wheat varieties such as Sahrai, Yubileynaya-100 and Batko.
The first tons of Balkan wheat were delivered to the receiving points. This year grain growers of the western region are planning to harvest 120,000 tons. To fulfill the task 160 grain combines are engaged in the harvest campaign in the region. Over 620 trucks will deliver wheat to 3 receiving points of the Balkangallaonumleri Production Association that have the laboratories where the representatives of the Turkmenstandartlary State Service will test the quality of grain round-the-clock to guarantee that grain grown from Balkan fields will satisfy modern standards and bread cooked from this grain will be tasty. The favourable working conditions were created for combine operators and drivers so that they will effective use agricultural machines and equipment.
Grain growers of the western region intend to reap rich wheat harvest without losses in the shortest period of time.
In a few days the harvest campaign will start in Dashoguz Velayat. The campaign is in full swing in Lebap, Mary and Ahal Velayats that launched it earlier due to the local soil and climatic conditions.
