Turkmenistan Conducted Meeting on Human Rights
OREANDA-NEWS. March 01, 2010. The Interagency Commission for implementation of the human rights international commitments of Turkmenistan conducted a regular meeting in Ashgabat. As is known, the Commission established in accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in August 2007 is a permanent interdepartmental advisory body. The agenda for the meeting, which was conducted in the conference hall of the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under President of Turkmenistan, focused on the results of the work done in 2009 and the tasks for the current year. The participants represented the Mejlis, the national ministries and departments, the public organisations and the media agencies.
It was noted that during the reporting period the Interagency commission had taken the measures to further strengthen the legal foundations of the Turkmen society and guarantee the realization of the political, economic, social and other rights of citizens. Particular attention was given to the monitoring of the national legislation and the ongoing work to update it in compliance with modern requirements and best international practices.
The Commission members reviewed the proposals and recommendations to further modernize the current legislation and draft new laws and statutory acts based on the international commitments of Turkmenistan and regulating the state policy in various spheres. As is known, the major responsibilities of the Commission include ensuring the preparation of the national reports on implementation of the fundamental international conventions on human rights by Turkmenistan.
The meeting participants identified the further steps to fulfill the tasks set by the national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Discussing the work plan for 2010 the Commission members underscored the need to further expand cooperation with the international organisations, particularly the United Nations Organisation. Also, the Commission would continue involving experts of the authoritative international organisations in conducting seminars, workshops and providing consultations on the preparation of the national reports, reviews and surveys of the best international practices in the field of human rights.
Particular attention was paid to issues relating to enhancing the information activities of the Interagency Commission aimed at further propagating the foreign and domestic policies pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the epoch of new Revival.
