OREANDA-NEWS. December 9, 2009. In response to a request of the Transitional Federal Government of the Somali Republic, the Government of the Russian Federation took decision to provide urgent humanitarian medical assistance worth 1 million US dollars to the population of Somalia via Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry. The action has been carried out in connection with the critical health situation in Somalia resulting from the long-running internal armed conflict.

The Somali side has expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of the Russian Federation for the assistance provided, which constituted one more manifestation of traditionally friendly relations between our countries and evidence of Russia’s interest in a speedy return to normalcy in Somalia and the establishment of peace and stability there.
