Turkmenistan-UNESCO: Priorities of Science and Education
OREANDA-NEWS. December 1, 2009. The International Expert Conference on the Role of Information and Communication Technologies, Science and Planning in Improving the Quality of Education has opened under the aegis of UNESCO in Turkmenbashi town today. The initiative of the UNESCO Forum in Turkmenistan was welcomed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The purpose of the meeting organized by the Turkmen National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Office in Tehran is to present the best international practice in introducing information and communications technologies in education as well as to study Turkmenistan’s positive experience in this field.
The experts and representatives of the international institutions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the European Centre for Higher Education and the Bangkok-based regional office of this international organisation, the education experts from Europe, Asia and America arrived in our country to participate in the forum.
As is known, informatization of education and science is a part of the global process. Today, information and communications technologies have been recognized across the world as the key technologies of XXI century that will become an essential factor for the economic progress of the states and the driving force of scientific and technological advance in the coming decades.
It should be noted that the international conference on the role of information and communications technologies in improving the quality of education is being conducted by UNESCO in Central Asia for the first time, and it is gratifying to note that Turkmenistan that actively implements the programme of the large-scale progressive reforms in the spheres of education and science was chosen the venue for the meeting of experts.
The agenda of the three-day conference includes the sessions and roundtables that will be an opportunity for the international experts and their Turkmen colleagues to discuss the topical aspects of the introduction of innovative technologies in education and identify the priorities for effective cooperation on further improvement of the education system in Turkmenistan in the epoch of New Revival.
The programme of cultural events includes the visit to the Avaza national tourist zone – the grandiose projects being implemented on the initiative and under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to turn the Turkmen seaside in a world-class resort.
