OREANDA-NEWS. November 11, 2009. According to information received, the problem with the German-owned ship Magdalena with a Russian crew that was in the waters of the Port of Dubai from August 28 has been resolved.

Recall that the ship arrived at the outer roads in Dubai, particularly for repairs (its main turbine having failed). In this case the sailors also demanded that the ship owner pay the US\\$250,000 owed to the crew for four months of work. Given that the owner did not make direct contact with the crew, some of the crew members went on a hunger strike.

The RF Consulate General in Dubai was in touch with the ship’s captain and helped ensure that the crew was provided with food, fuel and medical aid.

Today the crew’s claims, including for wage arrears, were satisfied. On November 10 ship captain Roman Vostrikov reported from St. Petersburg that all the Russian crew members of the Magdalena container carrier are back at home.
