Russia Establishes New Federal Universities
OREANDA-NEWS. October 22, 2009. Dmitry Medvedev signed an Executive Order to Establish Federal Universities in the Northwestern, Volga, Urals, and Far Eastern Federal Districts.
The President instructed the Government to establish within a three-month period a Northern (Arctic) Federal University on the basis of the Arkhangelsk State Technical University, a Volga Federal University on the basis of the Kazan State University, the Urals Federal University on the basis of the Urals State Technical University, the Far Eastern Federal University on the basis of the Far Eastern National University, and the Northeastern Federal University on the basis of the Yakut State University.
The Government was also instructed to work jointly with regional executive authorities to provide state support to the new universities.
The executive order takes effect upon signing.
